I was initially drawn to these non objective paintings because it is very similar to what we are learning and practicing in class.  The more I saw them and the more I read about threw artist I realized how ridiculously amazing they are.  The artist, Melissa McCracken, is actually able to see colors when hearing and reading things due to the brain phenomenon synesthesia.  These paintings are her painting what she sees when she listens to music! These particular two are “Imagine” by John Lennon, and “Mr. Ambulance Driver” by The Flaming Lips.  I love the transparent white highlights on “Imagine” and I think it adds such lightness and contrast to the deep maroons and blues on its left side.  The continuity also, how each stroke and color seems to move right along to the next.  The second almost pops right out of the painting, with the dark background and its explosions of bright colors in front of it.  The color scheme is spectacular.
