Summer Artist Statement

    My body of art work this past summer mostly composed itself in fragmented moments, as I tried to allow it to naturally create itself instead of being a forced event.  However this resulted in much different pieces and part within each piece.  These two works are completely outside of my normal area of art. In the past I have focused almost exclusively on realism, specifically pencil and acrylic.  Both if these pieces however are comprised of mixed media primarily including water color and pen ink, as well as some minor forms of collage. To me, these two pieces show a transforming train of thought, specifically in the more colorful one.  The watercolor was mostly used in splotches, and the overall picture and the moe intricate pen details and designs slowly evolved over time as it happened naturally. To me this represents my own thought process. The second piece is a landscape of sorts, broken up by “holes” in the grayscale watercolor, where the picture continued through pen.  The content behind this picture is the levels and layers of a painting.  Together these pieces share a similar use of a watercolor base combined and finished with pen. Overall these pieces are slightly all over the place, yet use this to add to their effect, both in the manner of creation and their portrayal of my own thoughts.
